…hey kids. Sorry we’ve been laying so conspicuously low around The Buddha Den as of late. We don’t want you to think we don’t care anymore. We do. We’ve just been really busy doing things that don’t include writing on this blog. Rest assured, however, that we are still very much here keeping an eye on everything that’s going on in the Dayton music scene and will report on such things as we get the time to do so…

…for now, however, The Buddha Den is very pleased to team up with Fictionband bring you the final installment in the Smug Brothers’ Fortune Rumors EP series. Since April 1, which seems like light years ago now, the reclusive outfit has been putting out tiny releases for FREE. With this sixth installment, the band has completed the project which will only be available until the end of the month. However, Smug Brother have teamed up with local label Squids Eye Records and have a couple of releases brewing. We’ll keep you posted as that unfolds…

If you were in Dayton in the early years of this nascent century, odds are you remember a little outfit called The Dirty Walk. Featuring Jeremy Fredricks (Cigarhead/Let’s Crash/Human Reunion) on bass/vocals, Tyler Trent (Brainiac) on drums, and Darryl Robbins (The Keynote Speaker/Montgomery Greene) on guitar/vocals, this trio was some serious mess. Although short-lived, this trio, and later a reformatted quartet, harnessed that quintessential Dayton thread and made it all their own. …after touring extensively throughout the early months of 2008, Joe Anderl (aka The 1984 NFL Draft) retreated into silence for the summer. Although seemingly silent, Anderl, along with Fictionband, were hard at work putting together a collection of tracks which has been released as, fittingly, The Fictionband Sessions EP. Although some of the more ambient elements from his previous I Love Joe Anderl album are absent, his trademark intimacy and bare-bones approach continue to mark his work.
