…in support of the upcoming Rock Your Ribbon Benefit for Women’s Cervical Cancer Awareness this weekend, the all-female punk outfit Jasper the Colossal is offering up the track “Back of the Crowd” to help raise funds for local organization, Noble Circle. You can buy the track via the JTC bandcamp page HERE. The ladies are currently working on tracks for a new album which is slated for a late summer release. You can catch them this Saturday at Blind Bob’s along with The Give Ups, The Northwest Ordinance, and Dirty Socialites….

…yes, it’s snowing. We’re guessing that as adults you’ve probably dealt with greater obstacles in yr life, so you should be able to navigate yr way down to Blind Bob’s tonight for an excellent show. Returning this evening are BB faves, Cincy’s The Seedy Seeds, who continue to rack up accolades from the likes of Paste and NPR as one of the best emerging bands in indieland with their infectious electro-folk sound. Making their Dayton debut this evening will be fellow Cincinnatians, No No Knots. Fronted be engaging chantreuse Molly Sullivan, most of the group studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, providing a sophistication and discipline that renders their debut EP Quiet to the Night an excellent electro-pop confection recalling The Cardigans and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. …rounding out the bill this evening are Dayton up-and-comers Me & Mountains. After crashing the party in a major way in 2010 with their self-titled debut EP and a live set that perpetually turned on heads around town, this quintet has settled into their home recording facilities to lay down tracks for their first full-length, with the tentative title of Feral. According to bassist/vocalist Burris Dixon, the band are currently tracking some 14 songs, which will be edited down for the final release, due out in Spring/Summer of this year. Of the material the band is currently engaged in, Dixon says:

Half the record is stuff we have played live and the other half will be all new. Some tracks were written when the EP was released and some were written a week ago. It’s broad and this album is both heavier and softer than the EP. I could go on and on, but these songs are much more personal and dear to me. I am more emotionally invested in this record. The debut EP was mostly fiction except for Wake Up which is about my wife.

HoliDayton-TONIGHT @ Blind Bob’s

…it’s not often that things last in the world of rock n’ roll. Especially here in Dayton. So, for an event such as HoliDayton to see it’s eighth inception is a rather impressive feat. Under the direction of Mark McMillon and Poppy of The Story Changes, HoliDayton will return to Blind Bob’s this year, presenting two alternating stages filled with some of Dayton’s finest. Dayton Music Fest 2010 Official Schedule Announced

…although we’ve been exceptionally quiet around these parts, rest assured, we are still very much alive. This afternoon, the organizers of the Dayton Music Fest announced the official schedule for this year’s fest, to take place on Saturday, October 2. Okay Lindon//Rotating Dates

…in a year that’s seen a flurry of releases fro Dayton acts, Okay Lindon jumps on the heap with an excellent new disc, Rotating Dates. Although largely the brainchild of Dustin Smith, he’s established a steady crew of contributors over the past year that have accompanied him on an increasing number of live performances in the area. While their 2009 release Everything in Moderation showed exceptional promise, Rotating Dates is a quantum jump for the band in terms of songwriting, performance, and production. Opener “Sad Songs” introduces a prickly guitar riff that outlines tales of Smith’s adventures balancing his trucking operation with operating a rock band. On “Talk of the Weather”, the loping jangle traces a moody shadow along the fringes of a somber reflection of current conversational topics. From head to hilt, Rotating Dates is classic contribution to the Midwestern rock aesthetic: earnest songwriting framed by bare-bones arrangements that connect with raw immediacy. Rotating Dates will be released on Knoxville imprint Arcade Sound LTD. Okay Lindon stopped into the WYSO studios earlier this week for a chat with Juliet Fromholt on the Kaleidescope program, which you can listen to here. …while we informed you a while back about Kuan’s upcoming tour of the US that starts tonight in Indianapolis, we just received the band’s upcoming EP, Colors, which the band lovingly hand-crafted and will be taking on out on the road with them. Kuan will celebrate locally upon their return on September 5 with a show at Blind Bob’s. …after a slow 2009 season, Dayton bands have come alive in 2010 with an impressive flurry of releases that may very well end up being one of the most fruitful years for local releases in recent memory. As we come to the midway point in the year, one of our current favorite locals, The Turkish Delights is, at long last, preparing to issue their debut disc: …Ahem. As alumni of The Buddha Den NTRO/XPO residency [the first, to be exact] and 2009 Canal Street Tavern Dayton Band Play-Offs Champions, this trio has earned a groundswell of devotees on the strength of an energetic live set and quirky, infectious songwriting. While the band mines the fertile soil of classic garage, early punk & new wave, and a plethora of indie icons, the resultant concoction defies easy categorization and transcends the sum of its constituent influences. Me & Mountains [CD Release]/Okay Lindon/The Harlequins-TONIGHT @ Blind Bob’s

…while we’ve been talking about Me & Mountains for a while now, tonight is the night these Dayton newcomers finally present their self-titled debut EP [via Fictionband Mechanics] to the world with a celebratory show at Blind Bob’s. It’s still a bit early in the year, but we feel confident in saying that this disc will most likely be one of the best releases to come out of the Gem City in 2010. Balancing the insatiable ear candy overflowing on these six tracks with venomous lyrical barbs provided by bassist Burris Dixon, the resulting contrast serves as the cornerstone of the band’s sound. The disc is far from one-dimensional, however. From the potential fan favorites “Foxy Friends” and “Rock King” to the sinister “Blackbird” and the ebullient “Wake Up and Feel the Magic”, the band show an impressive compositional range within an incredibly short playtime. Human Reunion//Carbonics

…at some five years in the making, at long last Dayton’s beloved Human Reunion will issue their first disc this weekend, the Carbonics 7″. Brought to you by the Detroit imprint Five Three Dial Tone, the 7″ includes the title track which is the first shot from the band’s upcoming debut full-length, Arc De Square, all of which was recorded by Enon frontman John Schmersal. The remaining three tracks are all non-album sides, including a spooky demo version of the title track. As the first shot fired from the upcoming album, “Carbonics” is a perfect introduction into the world of HR: the grinding bass bolsters the propulsive rhythms, guitars and synths ebb and flow throughout the soundscape, and the rapidfire vocal delivery speeds through the maelstrom. Human Reunion will celebrate the release of the Carbonics 7″ with a show this Friday at Blind Bob’s with The Motel Beds and Summer Lungs. Tune in now and we’ll see you there…

The Motel Beds/New Vega/Roger Klug/Nathan Peters-TONIGHT @ Blind Bob’s

…over the past eighteen months, the Dayton supergroup that is The Motel Beds have seen their star ascend rapidly in the local scene. After regrouping last spring and adding guitarist/engineer Darryl Robbins, the Beds’ live show has packed clubs around town while their most recent batch of recordings on Moondazed stands as a warning shot for what we suspect this band may very well become. Already the band have prepared a new disc entitled Feelings which strips away the lo-fi ramblings, revealing a band that is in full command of its wide array of sonic powers. Have a listen to the track “Lights On” for evidence of a band that can alternately conjure a whirling knot of interwoven guitars and just as easily coast into hypnotic waves of surf elevating PJ Paslosky’s effortless choruses into the fading horizon. Dig in now and get ready for Feelings…
