…while we’ve been talking about the imminent release of The Motel Beds’ full-length debut Feelings for a while now, we have it on good authority that this little Gem of the Gem City should be making its way to market by the end of Summer. Brought to you courtesy of the venerable Fictionband Mechanics imprint and impeccably transcribed by their in-house engineering mastermind Darryl Robbins, rest assured that Feelings may very well be one of the finest albums to come out of Dayton in 2010. From dream-psyche epics like “Mr. Salad Days” to the ethereal acoustic dirge of “Bourbon Skies” to the unabashed pop confection that is “81 Sun”, this disc navigates disparate regions with unfailing ease. Tune in now, as The Motel Beds will appear live this Saturday, June 19, at South Park Tavern in what has unofficially been dubbed POP INVASION. Appearing with the Beds will be Shrug and Jesse Remnant & the Trainwrecks. See you there….

…at some five years in the making, at long last Dayton’s beloved Human Reunion will issue their first disc this weekend, the Carbonics 7″. Brought to you by the Detroit imprint Five Three Dial Tone, the 7″ includes the title track which is the first shot from the band’s upcoming debut full-length, Arc De Square, all of which was recorded by Enon frontman John Schmersal. The remaining three tracks are all non-album sides, including a spooky demo version of the title track. As the first shot fired from the upcoming album, “Carbonics” is a perfect introduction into the world of HR: the grinding bass bolsters the propulsive rhythms, guitars and synths ebb and flow throughout the soundscape, and the rapidfire vocal delivery speeds through the maelstrom. Human Reunion will celebrate the release of the Carbonics 7″ with a show this Friday at Blind Bob’s with The Motel Beds and Summer Lungs. Tune in now and we’ll see you there…

…over the past eighteen months, the Dayton supergroup that is The Motel Beds have seen their star ascend rapidly in the local scene. After regrouping last spring and adding guitarist/engineer Darryl Robbins, the Beds’ live show has packed clubs around town while their most recent batch of recordings on Moondazed stands as a warning shot for what we suspect this band may very well become. Already the band have prepared a new disc entitled Feelings which strips away the lo-fi ramblings, revealing a band that is in full command of its wide array of sonic powers. Have a listen to the track “Lights On” for evidence of a band that can alternately conjure a whirling knot of interwoven guitars and just as easily coast into hypnotic waves of surf elevating PJ Paslosky’s effortless choruses into the fading horizon. Dig in now and get ready for Feelings…
…don’t forget, you can catch all this goodness live tonight at Blind Bob’s along with sets from New Vega [who also have a new disc pending], Roger Klug [up from Cincinnati], and Nathan Peters [ex-Captain of Industry]. See you there…

…in case you haven’t heard, there’s a lot of hoopla floating around Dayton for the big Triple Release show this weekend at Blind Bob’s, featuring releases from The Motel Beds, Smug Brothers, and John Gassett, as well as a special appearance from Toads and Mice. Tonight, local patron saint Juliet Fromholt will host the Beds and the Smugs live in the studio on her Kaleidosope program starting at 8 pm. …in anticipation of their upcoming release show on February 6 at Blind Bob’s with Smug Brothers, Toads and Mice, and John Gassett, have a look/listen at The Motel Beds most recent volume of their Moondazed series…
…while we’ve been resting here at The Buddha Den, the prolific little outfit The Motel Beds has been extremely busy with their new Moondazed EP series. Released via the Fictionband Mechanics imprint, so far the Beds have put up the first three installments of a promised 6-part series as free downloads. You can also enjoy the minimalist film experience of the EPs with a series of videos below. In true Motel Beds fashion, the melodies on all these tracks are undeniable and hooktastic. Be prepared to have these little EPs burrow their way into yr mind for weeks. What makes this batch a little different than previous Beds offerings is the range in fidelity; typically a glossy sheen coats all Beds releases, but these EPs range from scratchy, intimate acoustic ditties to full-blown mindbenders. All we can do is recommend you dig in immediately. Enjoy….
….if you enjoy these three clips, Fictionband Mechanics will issue the last 3 episodes every Monday for the remainder of January. All 6 episodes will be released as one disc on February 6, with a show at Blind Bob’s along with Smug Brothers. Stay tuned for more details as they become available…

…what can we say kids? This is a HUGE evening for all of us here at The Buddha Den, as we celebrate two years of bringing you everything you wanted to know about the Dayton music scene and more but were afraid to ask. We couldn’t be more excited or more grateful to all of you who have made this possible. It has been our distinct pleasure to get to meet so many great people near and far over the last couple of years, to see so many great performances from so many great bands, and perhaps play just a tiny role in shining a light on music scene that is so incredibly vibrant and filled with so many talented people. Thanks so much to every single one of you that has come to a show, left a comment, let us share yr music, and just kept reading this blog every day for two years. Rest assured, we will continue to do all that we can to continue to shine a light on the Gem City…
…as our humble way of saying “Thank you!”, we’ve assembled a bill for tonight that has us absolutely giddy with anticipation. As if it would take much to get us excited about a bill that includes Toads and Mice, Pretty & Nice [Boston/Hardly Art], The Motel Beds, and Jesse Remnant & the Trainwrecks. Add in that it’s at one of our favorite Dayton spots, South Park Tavern, and we’ve got a pretty good recipe for a great night of music. We hope yr equally excited. We’re getting things started early tonight, with doors at 8 pm and music by 8:30. Fashionably late at yr own risk. See you there & thanks again for everything…
…while it’s still a couple of weeks off, we thought we’d give you ample opportunity to prepare yourselves. The Buddha Den is very excited to cap off our 2nd year of bringing you everything you wanted to know about the Dayton music scene and more but were afraid to ask, so we’re throwing a big party. With some of our favorite bands: Toads and Mice; Pretty & Nice; The Motel Beds; Jesse Remnant & the Trainwreck. At our favorite local club: South Park Tavern. Sure, it’s a Sunday, but it will be worth it. Trust us. Mark yr calendars now and we’ll see you at South Park Tavern on September 13…
…we apologize for our brevity, but we’re confident you’ll forgive us. The Motel Beds are headlong into the recording of a new album, which, from the sounds below, should blow minds far and wide. Columbus duo The Receiver are currently out in support of their self-released album, Length of Arms. If you aren’t at Blind Bob’s tonight, we probably can’t help you…
