…of course you don’t. In the unchecked sprawl of the rock era, there are any number of bands in any genre that inevitably fall through the cracks and whose potential legacy goes unacknowledged. In the case of Scottish new wave/post-punk trio The Blades, well, we’d never even heard of them. Thanks to Fab Gear’s Jay Madewell for bringing this to our attention. While it’s easy to see in this clip why the band failed to make an impact similar to the like of The Jam or Joy Division or XTC, it’s interesting to listen to the band tell the oft-told tale of losing control of their direction in the studio to engineers and producers, ultimately failing to fully capture the band’s potential on record.
